The FUNDAJEFEHOGAR Foundation positions the brand “El Legado de mi Agüe” as an engine of autonomy and cultural preservation.
Within the framework of the “Sweets of Memory in Buenaventura” project, supported and co-financed by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Knowledge, the Women Heads of Household Foundation (FUNDAJEFEHOGAR) added another successful chapter. Thanks to a special invitation from the Buenaventura Chamber of Commerce, we actively participated in their trade fair held from Holy Monday to Holy Wednesday.
“My Grandmother’s Legacy”: The Foundation leading with its own brand
It is essential to highlight that the Foundation participated directly in this important business event with its institutional stand and its own brand for its production unit: “El Legado de mi Agüe” (My Grandmother’s Legacy). As FUNDAJEFEHOGAR is the fundamental base for the conservation and safeguarding of this ancestral knowledge, we assumed a leading role at the fair in marketing these traditional Pacific products. With this, we demonstrated to the region that our culture has not been lost, that it is more alive than ever, and that it has immense potential to generate dignified income.
The women who are currently part of the training processes were scheduled and prepared to demonstrate their talents at the big fair that will be held in the San Buenaventura Urbanization.
Tradition that sustains homes
This important trade showcase served to demonstrate that the making of traditional sweets is not just an act of nostalgia, but a real way to guarantee the sustainability and livelihood of many households headed by single mothers in Buenaventura. What was historically seen as an informal activity is now, thanks to the Foundation, projected as a solid, autonomous, and corporate entrepreneurial chain.
A powerful legacy: From generation to generation
For the Foundation, this exercise has profound significance. The knowledge of our ancestors is a treasure we must not let be lost; new generations need to know that this rich tradition exists and that it must be preserved for many more years.
Traditionally, the production and sale of these Pacific sweets was concentrated almost exclusively in rural areas and limited to the Easter and New Year’s seasons. However, FUNDAJEFEHOGAR’s major initiative, “My Grandmother’s Legacy,” aims to break down this barrier: we want to make these flavors and traditional knowledge available year-round, providing a daily and permanent source of income for families.
A heartfelt thank you to a great ally
We want to express our deepest gratitude to the Buenaventura Chamber of Commerce. Not only for providing us with this important sales opportunity during Holy Week, but also for their support throughout the technical and business training process. Their support has been fundamental in enabling us, as a Foundation, to safeguard this ancestral knowledge, which is of paramount importance to the identity of our region. Together, hand in hand with the institutions that believe in the Pacific, we continue to enrich the present and ensure the future of our cultural heritage.
